SELKO INTELLIBOND

Improve rumen fermentation and hindgut health with trace mineral management

SELKO INTELLIBOND

Improve rumen fermentation and hindgut health with trace mineral management

Avoid sulphates, they can have a negative impact on rumen flora and gut barrier function

Trace minerals support biological functions that are required for proper immune function, reproduction, and growth. They are present in forages and other feeds used in cattle, but supplementation is often needed to meet the needs of the animal. Stability and thus availability of the trace mineral source differs a lot. Traditionally, minerals have been categorized as either organic or inorganic, but a newly defined category of trace minerals, known as hydroxy trace minerals, became available recently. Recent research finds sulphate sources of trace minerals, which are the most commonly used inorganic sources, may harm dairy cows’ physiological performance, because they reduce NDF digestibility and negatively impact gut barrier function.

IntelliBond is proven to be an effective source of copper, zinc and manganese for animals. The low solubility of IntelliBond at neutral pH results in less interaction in the feed/premix and in the upper gastrointestinal tract in ruminants. This means more metal is available for use by the animal where it is needed most59,60,61,62. Exclusive OptiSize® particle technology creates uniform particles, making IntelliBond non-hygroscopic.

Trace minerals that improve gut barrier function and rumen function

Selko IntelliBond

Features

Selko IntelliBond is very stable within the feed and has low solubility in the rumen. It does not have a negative impact on rumen bacteria responsible for fiber digestion42,59,60 and does not have a negative effect on gut barrier function. Palatability is superior to palatability of sulphate salts. There is a limited interaction with antagonists in the diet, ensuring a high bioavailability.

Benefits

Selko IntelliBond’s increased bioavailability and the positive impact on fibre digestion and gut barrier function support well-being and optimizes animal productivity of dairy cows. Negative interactions with other essential nutrients and critical feed constituents are minimal. Selko IntelliBond is easy to handle and blend while reducing dust. It delivers the least amount of product required to meet biological requirements, maximising absorption of the product in the animal, and minimising destruction of other nutrients in the feed resulting in less of the mineral and other nutrients being excreted into the environment.

Trials carried out with IntelliBond

Free trace minerals can be toxic to rumen fibre digesting bacteria. The effect of Selko IntelliBond trace minerals on neutral detergent fibre (NDF) digestibility was compared to the effect of suplphates in 2 trials42,59,60. The results of these trials show that Selko IntelliBond is less toxic to the rumen compared to suplhate sources of trace minerals.

Hydroxy trace minerals for dairy cattle

By using Selko IntelliBond which contains the hydroxy form of trace minerals, the use of sulphates can be avoided, which will result in an improvement of fibre digestion42,59,60 and gut health of dairy cows.
